Employees of Pratt Industries have been taking care of the people in the communities in which they live and work long before community outreach became part of the wider corporate concept of the Triple Bottom Line.
Whether it’s helping victims of a natural disaster, an organization that promotes athletic programs for women or a group that focuses on education for underprivileged youth, Pratt employees are there to lend a hand. Willing to help. Willing to take action.
It’s no different when it comes to helping in the fight against breast cancer.
We’ve all been touched by the ravages of breast cancer – whether a mother, a wife, a sister, a friend, even a daughter.
Rally for the Cure is a grassroots program that works to spread awareness about breast health and breast cancer in support of Susan G. Komen™ — the global leader of the breast cancer movement and the world’s biggest grassroots network of survivors.
It’s the group’s mission to empower people to join the fight against breast cancer by educating their friends, family and community on the importance of early detection through volunteer organized events, whether social or sporting.
On June 19th, a Rally for the Cure event will be held at Stonewater Country Club in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area. Over 100 people have signed up to play in a 4-person scramble format.
Pratt Industries is involved not only in sponsoring and chairing the event, but will have employees volunteering to help organize the day activities. Last year, the event raised more than $8000 – and this year’s target is $10,000.
According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women (after skin cancer) and the second leading cause of cancer death in women (after lung cancer) in the United States.
ACS estimated that 261,100 new cases of breast cancer (in situ and invasive cancers) were diagnosed among women in this country in 2010 and that the disease now affects one in eight women.
But the good news is that it’s highly curable if detected and treated early – and we’re proud that Pratt Industries is helping to spread that message.
