Pratt Industries has officially opened its newest recycling facility in Rock Hill, SC. Myles Cohen, President of Pratt Recycling, said the new plant – the company’s 15th recycling center in the USA – would service the recycling needs of businesses, cities and counties within a 100 mile radius and bring both economic and environmental benefits to the area.
“This portion of the State of South Carolina has historically been underserved by not have a material recovery facility located in Rock Hill,” said Myles. “Now Rock Hill businesses and residents, as well as those in surrounding municipalities can have access to a recycling facility close to their own community.
“This is not only good for local businesses and residents but also for the environment because it will take trucks off the road, saving fuel and reducing emissions, while also creating jobs in South Carolina.”
The opening of the 72,000 square foot building – which accepts both residential and commercial recyclables including paper, plastics and metals – was attended by more than 125 local leaders, business people and recycling industry professionals. The paper sorted on site – Pratt’s third recycling facility in South Carolina – will be used as fibre for the company’s mill at its Conyers eco-campus.
At capacity, the plant will produce 150 tons a day of recyclables, including 100 tons of paper and old corrugated container. In addition the facility will also handle a variety of metals and plastics.
“The addition of Pratt’s Rock Hill facility is a tremendous benefit to Rock Hill citizens,” said Mayor Doug Echols. “Rather than drive to Charlotte, public works staff will deliver the recyclables to this new
location, requiring far less time and fuel. We’re happy to welcome Pratt to Rock Hill and look forward to working in partnership to further sustainability efforts in our community.”
